Entry #265: My startup.cfg file does not execute its commands properly

Question
My startup.cfg file does not execute its commands properly
Answer
There could be several reasons for this.

1. Make sure either through Windows Explorer or the command prompt that the file exists. Often, if the file is not saved properly in Windows Notepad, Notepad may append a .txt filename extension to the file.

To have the startup.cfg file come up on startup:

- Make sure you have the ViewPoint icon located on your desktop.

- Right click on the ViewPoint icon, select Properties from the menu, and the ViewPoint Properties dialog box will appear.

- In the Target field, type in the information you want. For example, to automatically start up the configured startup file, you would have the following entry in the Target field of the ViewPoint Properties dialog box:

c:\vp\vp.exe @c:\vp\startup.cfg

Once the PC is restarted, you will see this configuration come up, and the file1.vfm box will appear. If you want, you can minimize the file1.vfm file, save it, and restart, and it will come up minimized the next time you start up.

2. Is it on a network drive? If so, check permissions.

3. Check to make sure no other networking protocols are interfering with access to a network drive.
Symptoms
c:\vp\startup.cfg file is not executing commands as defined inside the file.
Cause
Improperly named startup.cfg file or permissions/network issues.
